EMBEDDED DFV SPECIALIST PRACTITIONER

EDON Place’s Embedded DFV Specialist Practitioner is located at the Bundaberg Police Station.  The Embedded DFV Specialist Practitioner provides support & Crisis Intervention including risk and needs assessment and safety planning to address the immediate needs of victim-survivors who presents to the Police Station.  Support is provided through information, advice, and/or referrals in a timely manner that meets the needs of the victim-survivor.

The following outcomes are the focus of this program:

  • incorporating an understanding of the issues related to DFV and other forms of gender-based violence and the associated practice approaches and standards for service delivery
  • prioritising support for victim-survivors who attend the Bundaberg police station
  • undertaking crisis intervention including risk and needs assessment and safety planning to address the immediate needs of the victim-survivor
  • assisting police to engage with the victim-survivor by building rapport and trust and providing Emotional & Practical support to ensure the safety of victim-survivors & their children. 
  • promoting better understanding of the dynamics of gender, power and control
  • assisting police officers to identify and respond to the patterns of behaviour over time that constitute DFV, taking into consideration the relationship as a whole
  • building partnerships with police and government and non-government organisations, including the local DFV integrated service response to support the safety and wellbeing of the victim-survivor
  • responding to Police Referrals
  • coordinating referrals and access to other appropriate services
  • engaging in collaborative debriefing and reflective practice with QPS to continually improve responses.
